Refunds & Cancellation
This document forms part of our Terms of Service (Sections 6.3 and 6.7) and explains, in practical terms, how we calculate the amount owed when you cancel a legal service before delivery, and how refunds work. It exists separately from the Terms so that we can keep the table and timeframes updated more quickly, but the principles that you can cancel whenever you want, and that you only pay for what has already been done, are set out in the Terms of Service and do not change.
In the event of any conflict between this document and Section 6 of the Terms of Service, the Terms of Service prevail.
Every legal service goes through three stages. The more advanced the stage at the moment you cancel, the larger the portion of the fee already owed, because more work has already been done.
| Stage | What it means | What you pay if you cancel |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 0 | You have paid, but the lawyer has not yet started working on your request. | Nothing. 100% refund of the amount paid. |
| Stage 1 | The lawyer has already started working, but the final result has not yet been delivered to you. | Part of the fee, in proportion to how far the work has progressed (see the tables by type of service below). |
| Stage 2 | The final result (the finished document, or the promised summary) has already been delivered to you. | The full fee. There is no refund, but you are entitled to a free correction if there is a defect (Section 6.4 of the Terms). |
For services where the final result is a document, for example a contract, a draft, or a written opinion, we use this table:
| Point at which you cancel | % of the fee already owed |
|---|---|
| Request received, lawyer has not yet started | 0% (Stage 0, full refund) |
| Lawyer has started analyzing your request | 40% |
| A first version of the document has been produced | 60% |
| You have already exchanged messages with the lawyer after that first version, requesting adjustments (where applicable) | 80% |
| The final review has been completed, but the document has not yet been sent to you (where applicable) | 90% |
| The document has been delivered to you | 100% (Stage 2, no refund, only correction if there is a defect) |
For consultations, where the contracted service is the conversation with the lawyer itself, and not a document, we use this table:
| Point at which you cancel | % of the fee already owed |
|---|---|
| Request received, lawyer has not yet started | 0% (Stage 0, full refund) |
| The consultation is already underway | 90% |
| The consultation has ended and no written summary was promised | 100% (the conversation itself was the service) |
| The consultation has ended, but a written summary or opinion was promised | Stays at 90% until that summary is actually delivered, then rises to 100% |
If, at the time of engagement, it is not clear which table applies to your case, we tell you before you approve the service, together with the price (Section 5.2 of the Terms).
After delivery, you do not receive a refund, but you are entitled to a free correction if you point out an objective defect, for example: a clause expressly agreed that was missing, incorrect data on our part, or a type of document different from what you requested. Disagreeing with the content of a well-founded opinion, or preferring a legal strategy different from the one recommended, is not a defect: it is a professional opinion, and does not give a right to correction or refund.
Amounts paid to third parties on your behalf (for example, court costs, registration fees, and notarial charges) and amounts relating to your disagreement with the merits of a well-founded opinion. See Section 6.8 of the Terms.
Use the support channel indicated on the Platform. Billing-related requests are usually resolved directly through that channel; requests related to the content of legal work are forwarded to a responsible RPG lawyer for review (Section 6.10 of the Terms).
We may update this Policy more often than the Terms of Service, to adjust timeframes and percentages as we learn more about the business. Changes apply to services approved from the update date onward. A service you have already approved remains governed by the table in force at the time you approved it (Section 5.2 of the Terms): future changes never affect, retroactively, a service already underway.
